We all hit writer's block at some point during the writing process.

My favorite and most effective ways to clear my mind and refresh my thoughts:

-outdoor walk or run

I just went on a run this weekend with my dad, and it was nice to catch up with him, but it was also a great opportunity to flush out my own thoughts and brainstorm for my book. The coolness and freshness of the morning makes me attentive--exciting my creative energy:) And... running with a partner (like my dad) is a wonderful opportunity to bounce around ideas!

-yoga

Yoga is my favorite way to connect with my body, feel my breath, and also get in a good strength and core work out! I use the app Daily Yoga on my phone for instructor-guided yoga videos--they have a full range of difficulty levels and types of exercises. I find that after a yoga session, I have more energy to write and a clearer mind.

-meditation

Even just 5 minutes of mindfulness meditation helps me become in touch with the present moment and really flush out all distracting thoughts. I love setting up my diffuser, getting in a comfortable seat on my bed or a chair, and following along to guided meditation on the Daily Yoga app.

-listen to music

Sometimes we all just need a quick dance party to reflow our creative juices!! To get re-energized, I love listening to Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande, and Sam Hunt on Spotify. Tip for the best dance parties: connect your phone to a speaker or set your phone in a cup to intensify the volume of the music!

-go on a drive

There's something about being in the car that instantly relaxes me--whether I'm the passenger or driver. With low-volume music, I always come in touch with my thoughts and process my ideas better when on a drive around my neighborhood. I also love to listen to podcasts in the car--they inspire new ideas. A great podcast I just listened to is called "Emotions" on the Invisibilia radio program hosted by Alex Spiegel and Hanna Rosin for National Public Radio.
